**Emad Mostaque** is a British-Bangladeshi entrepreneur and mathematician, best known as the co-founder and former CEO of **Stability AI**, the company behind **Stable Diffusion**. He now leads the Intelligent Internet project and its governance platform, SAGE.
## Stability AI
Mostaque, a former hedge fund manager with an MA in mathematics and computer science from Oxford, co-founded **Stability AI** (with Cyrus Hodes) in 2020 and backed the release of **Stable Diffusion** — one of the models that brought open, openly-licensed generative image AI into wide public use. He stepped down as CEO of Stability AI in **March 2024**.
## Intelligent Internet
After Stability AI, Mostaque launched Intelligent Internet (ii.inc) — a project to build open, auditable, sovereign AI infrastructure. Its whitepaper centres on AI **governance failures**, **sovereign AI agents**, **proof-of-benefit**, **Common Ground** coordination, and **auditable provenance**.
## SAGE
Within Intelligent Internet, Mostaque leads SAGE — the **Sovereign AI Governance Engine** — an open-source, agent-driven policy platform pitched to help governments design, test, and adapt policy *"at the speed of AI."* **Emad Mostaque → Stability AI / Stable Diffusion → Intelligent Internet → SAGE.**
